City Walkabout ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose information when you use the City Walkabout mobile application ("App").
By using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 User Inputs
- Location Information (only if you choose to use your current location to set a starting point for a Walkabout).
- Selected Interests, Search Radius, and Number of Locations to personalize your walking tour.
1.2 Device & Usage Information
We use analytics tools to improve the App. The following data may be collected:
- Device information: operating system, device model.
- Anonymous usage data: feature interactions, session timestamps, app preferences.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any information that directly identifies you.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected data to:
- Generate personalized AI-powered walking tours based on your inputs.
- Identify nearby points of interest relevant to your location and interests.
- Improve App functionality and user experience.
- Respond to customer support requests.
3. Third-Party Services
We share certain data with trusted third-party services required to operate the App:
3.1 Maps & Location Services
Google Maps API is used to identify points of interest based on your starting location and interests. Your location and selected preferences are sent to Google to generate tour results.
3.2 AI Content Generation
OpenAI API is used to generate walking tour narrative content. Your selected interests, search radius, and nearby location data are sent to OpenAI to produce tour descriptions.
3.3 Analytics
Amplitude Analytics collects anonymized usage data to help us understand how the App is used and improve its features. No personally identifiable information is included in this data.
3.4 In-App Purchases
The App is free to use. It offers optional, voluntary tips, which are processed by the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). There are no subscriptions, and no features are locked behind a purchase. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple and Google and is not accessible to us. Purchase transactions are subject to their respective privacy policies.
We do not sell or share your personal data with advertisers or marketing agencies.
4. Data Retention
- Location and user inputs are used in real time to generate your walking tour and are not stored on our servers.
- Analytics data is anonymized and retained indefinitely to support ongoing product improvement.
5. Your Rights & Data Requests
5.1 GDPR & CCPA Compliance
We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Your rights include:
- Right to Access – Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Correction – Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to Deletion – Request deletion of your data.
- Right to Object – Restrict how we use your data.
- CCPA Opt-Out – California users may opt out of data collection by contacting us.
- No Data Selling – We do not sell or share user data for advertising.
Because the App does not create user accounts, there is no account data to delete. For analytics opt-out or any other data request, contact us using the information in Section 9.
5.2 Children's Privacy & COPPA Compliance
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in certain regions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided personal information may contact us to request deletion.
We comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and GDPR-K (for minors in the EU).
5.3 U.S. State Age Verification Laws
Certain U.S. states, including Texas, Utah, and Louisiana, have introduced age verification requirements for app-based services. Because City Walkabout does not collect personal data, create user accounts, or include age-restricted or interactive social features, these laws do not materially apply to our service. If future updates introduce functionality that falls within those laws, we will update our practices and this Privacy Policy accordingly.
6. App Permissions
The App may request the following permission:
- Location: To allow you to set your starting point for a Walkabout. This is optional — you may also enter a location manually.
7. Security
All data transmitted between the App and third-party services is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and TLS (Transport Layer Security).
8. AI-Generated Content
City Walkabout uses OpenAI to generate walking tour content. We provide an in-app reporting tool for flagging inappropriate AI-generated content. If a violation is reported, we take prompt corrective action.
